Gauge Ghost Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Gauge Ghost (“the App”) collects, uses, and protects your information. It also explains the choices you have about your data.

By using Gauge Ghost, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

Gauge Ghost is owned and operated by Tethered Technologies LLC (“we”, “us”, or “our”).

Gauge Ghost is designed to collect minimal data needed for the app to function. You are not required to create an account or provide personal identifying information to use the core features.

  • Mileage / trip data
    When you start a run after your vehicle’s gas gauge goes “blank,” you may enter:

    • The last “miles remaining” displayed on your vehicle’s dash.

    • Any other optional inputs the app may offer (for example, labels or notes for your run, if enabled in a future version).

This information is stored locally on your device and is used to help estimate your “true empty” point. It is not transmitted to our servers.

  • Support communications
    If you contact us by email or through a form on our Website, we may receive:

    • Your name (if you choose to provide it)

    • Your email address

    • The content of your message and any attachments
      We use this information only to respond to your inquiry and provide support.

2.2 Automatically Collected Information

Depending on your device and settings, the App may collect:

  • Location data (optional / with permission)
    If you grant location permission, Gauge Ghost may access your device’s location to:

    • Show nearby gas stations

    • Improve distance estimations and map-related features

Location data is used in real time for these features. We do not use it to create a personal movement profile, and we do not store your precise location on our own servers.

You can disable location access in your device settings at any time. If you do so, some features (such as finding nearby gas stations) may not function correctly.

  • Device and usage data
    The app and the app store/platform (such as Apple) may collect limited technical information, such as:

    • Device type and operating system version

    • App version

    • Basic usage or performance data, and crash information

This information is generally collected in an aggregated or de-identified form and is used to maintain and improve the App (for example, diagnosing crashes or performance issues).

3. How We Use Your Information

We may use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To provide the core functionality of Gauge Ghost, including:

    • Tracking miles since your gauge went blank

    • Estimating when you are close to “true empty”

    • Displaying nearby gas stations, when location is enabled

  • To maintain and improve the App’s performance, stability, and user experience.

  • To respond to your questions and support requests.

  • To understand app usage in aggregate (for example, how often certain screens or features are used) so we can make better product decisions.

We do not sell your personal information.

4. Data Storage and Security

  • On-device storage
    Mileage runs, preferences (such as your selected color/style theme), and similar app data are stored locally on your device. If you uninstall the App, reset your device, or clear app data, this information may be permanently deleted from your device.

  • Server-side data
    As of the date of this Privacy Policy, Gauge Ghost does not rely on user accounts or store your mileage data on our own servers for normal operation. If we introduce optional cloud-based features in the future, we will update this Privacy Policy accordingly.

We take reasonable steps to protect any information we do handle, but no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

5. Third-Party Services

Gauge Ghost may use or interact with third-party services, which may collect information independently from us. These may include:

  • App store providers (such as Apple)
    These platforms may collect their own data in connection with app distribution, updates, and crash reporting. Their use of data is governed by their own privacy policies.

  • Maps and places providers
    To display nearby gas stations and map views, the App may use services such as Apple Maps or other mapping providers. These services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies.

  • Analytics and crash reporting tools (if implemented)
    We may use third-party tools to understand app performance and usage in aggregate. These tools generally focus on technical and usage data, not personal identity.

We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you interact with through your device or app store.

6. Children’s Privacy

Gauge Ghost is not specifically directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at team@tetheredtechnologies.com. We will take appropriate steps to review and, if necessary, delete that information.

7. Your Choices and Controls

You have several options for controlling how the App uses certain information:

  • Location permissions
    You can enable or disable Gauge Ghost’s access to your location in your device’s privacy settings. Turning off location access may affect features that rely on your current position, such as showing nearby gas stations.

  • Device permissions and settings
    You may control other app permissions (such as notifications, background refresh, etc.) in your device’s settings.

  • Uninstalling the App
    You can stop all data collection and use by Gauge Ghost by uninstalling the App from your device.

If we introduce account-based features or cloud storage in the future, we will provide additional controls and update this Privacy Policy as needed.

8. International Users

If you access or use Gauge Ghost from outside the United States, you understand that your information may be processed in the United States or other locations where we or our service providers operate. Data protection laws in these locations may differ from those in your country or region.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this document.

If we make material changes, we may also provide additional notice within the App or on our Website at https://tetheredtechnologies.wixsite.com/tetheredtechnologies. Your continued use of Gauge Ghost after any changes become effective means you accept the updated Privacy Policy.
